Embark on an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, and explore the surrounding wildlife-rich landscapes on a 6-day safari adventure. Here are detailed itineraries for each of the popular Kilimanjaro routes, showcasing the diverse beauty and challenges of each path:
This is a popular route up steep paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Icefields to join the Barafu Route to the summit. An extra day could be added to the itinerary, best spent on the Shira Plateau, where you could walk to the Shira Needles. Strong groups could omit camping at Karanga River. The Mweka Route is used for the descent. Accommodation on the mountain is in tents which the porters will pitch for you. You will need a sleeping bag, warm clothes and walking poles. This is a steep, tough trek within the limits of a fit individual used to walking in mountain areas.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL: On your arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO) our representative will pick you from airport and then transfer to hotel in Moshi for Dinner and overnight at Neneu hotel http://www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 2: MACHAME GATE TO MACHAME CAMP (10,000 ft): You will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi at 8:30 Am and then transfer to Machame gate. Today you begin your trek from Machame park entrance gate, through a dense forest of fig and rubber trees, begonia flowers and other tropical vegetation. A walk of about two to three hours will take you to this evening’s campsite. As you continue your ascent, you will find that the tropical forest has given way to tall grasses and giant heather.Watch your steps as you walk on a ridge, to the left of which is the Semira stream and, on the right, the WeruWeru. Depending on the pace of climbers, arrival at Machame Camp is usually between 5 and 6 p.m. Tranquil and relatively easy are the words which best describe the initial stage of this climb. Take time to admire the beauty of the rainforest. Your guides are very knowledgeable about the botany in this area and listening to them will make the walk all the more interesting and rewarding.
DAY 3: MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA PLATEAU (12,500 ft): Enjoy the fabulous view of Uhuru Peak as it greets you this morning. Today’s trek takes you up a steep track through a savannah of tall grasses, volcanic rock and bearded heather. You will encounter giant groundsels as you hike through an ethereal landscape of volcanic lava, caves and foaming streams. A trek of approximately six hours will take you to your next campsite; you should arrive between 2 and 3 p.m. Most climbers tend to pace themselves, walking slowly, sipping at their water bottles and resting about every half-hour.
DAY 4: SHIRA PLATEAU TO BARRANCO CAMP (13,000 ft): On your 6 a.m. wake-up call today, you will find the entire Shira Plateau at your feet, with sweeping views across to Mount Meru and the Shira Needles. A steady walk takes you up to the pass at Lava Tower (15,000 ft), where you will stop to have lunch. After crossing the Bastains stream, you begin the descent towards Barranco Camp. Grand Barranco is an immense canyon. Numerous waterfalls, which are fed by streams coming from the mountain, converge here to form the Umbwe River. Your camp is set at almost the same altitude as on the previous night. Today’s trek lasts for about six hours and arrival at camp is between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m.
DAY 5: BARANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP (, 13,000 ft): Climb Baranco wall to Karanga camp for resting and acclimatization 3 hours hiking
DAY 6: KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP (15,200 ft): The lovely scenic climb to Barafu is mostly on alpine desert terrain; a mainly mineral environment with few lichens and mosses. Mawenzi Peak towers majestically to the right and Kibo Peak seems just a stone’s throw away. Arrival at Barafu camp around 1p.m. for resting Climbers who wish to attempt the summit should retire early tonight, as the next day is the longest of the whole climb.
DAY 7: ASCENT TO SUMMIT (19,430 ft) / DESCENT TO MWEKA CAMP (10,200 ft): It is at this stage that the climb becomes much more difficult and hikers should carry as little as possible for this stage which starts at midnight. Temperatures range from -4 degrees to 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Climbing steadily, flanked by the Ratzel and Rebman glaciers, for about six hours will bring you to the edge of the crater between Stella and Hans Meyer points. Another hour of climbing brings you to the summit. Concentrate on your feet, and follow your guide very closely for this section of the journey – the track around the edge of the crater is rocky and icy. Uhuru towers at 19,340 ft and is the highest point on the continent of Africa – and this is where you now stand!Relax and partake of refreshment at Kibo Hut before continuing on to Mweka Camp for the night. Arriving into camp at around 5 p.m. you will look back and realize that, today, you have trekked a total of thirteen hours!
DAY 8: MWEKA CAMP TO THE GATE: Congratulate yourself today on your great achievement! The descent to the gate takes approximately five hours and climbers usually arrive before noon. Upon arrival at the gate, you will be rewarded with a certificate attesting your success at conquering Mount, After lunch transfer to your hotel for overnight Neneu hotel http://www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 9: TRANSFER OR SAFARI: Today is transfer or safari.
Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, Marangu approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeast. It is the oldest, most well-established route. Many favor Marangu because it is considered to be the easiest route on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. The minimum days required for this route is five, although the probability of successfully reaching the top in that time period is quite low. Spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain is highly recommended.Marangu is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut (because only Horombo Hut is used on descent). Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut. Also available for consumption are soft drinks, bottled water, and beer. The Marangu route is a classic trek to the top of Kilimanjaro. However, it has the least scenic variety of all routes (ascent and descent are done on the same path) and is the most crowded for that reason.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL: On your arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO) our representative will pick you from airport and then transfer to hotel in Moshi for dinner and overnight at Panama hotel (B&B) Neneu hotel www.neneuhotel.com.
DAY 2: MARANGU GATE – MANDARA HUT (8,875 FT): This morning we drive through Kilimanjaro’s semi-tropical foothills to Marangu Gate, where you enter Kilimanjaro National Park and start your climb. Today’s trek takes 4-5 hours through tropical rainforest to reach Mandara Hut
DAY 3: MANDARA HUT – HOROMBO HUT (12,201 FT): Your second day on the mountain starts with a fairly steep climb through the last of the rainforest up to alpine meadows dotted with giant heather. Further on, the environment changes to open heath with stunted vegetation before opening out to bleak moorland. Today you will gain approximately 1,000m in altitude, so walk slowly in order to acclimatize properly. It is normally a 6–7-hour hike to reach Horombo Hut.
DAY 4: HOROMBO HUT: Acclimatization Day in Horombo hut with short hike to Zebra rock and back to rest .
DAY 5: HOROMBO HUT – KIBO HUT (15,463 FT): The terrain now becomes progressively more rocky and rugged and giant groundsels and lobelias make their appearance. The trail skirts Mawenzi Peak, before crossing a stark, almost lunar landscape and the tundra desert of ‘the saddle”. The hike to Kibo Hut takes anything from 5 to 7 hours and the views from the saddle are breathtaking. Make this an early night – your attempt on Uhuru Peak starts at midnight.
DAY 6: KIBO HUT – SUMMIT (19,340 FT) – HOROMBO HUT (12,201 FT): Soon after midnight, you will be awakened by your guides to start the zigzag trek up a long scree slope. After roughly two hours you should reach Hans Meyer’s Cave and from here the gradient gets steeper. Continue your climb for approximately another 3 hours to Gilman’s Point and you will be rewarded by the dramatic sight of the rising sun reflecting off the ice fields and craggy peaks of Mawenzi. Walk along the crater rim for another couple of hours to reach your goal – Uhuru Peak, towering at 19,340 ft. After congratulating yourself and your companions on this great achievement, descend to Kibo Hut for rest and refreshment before continuing to Horombo Hut for your last night on the mountain.
DAY 7: HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE: After a leisurely breakfast, make your final descent across the alpine meadow, past Mandara Hut and on down through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where your driver and vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi, overnight in Neneu hotel www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 8: TRANSFER OR START SAFARI: Transfer or start safari End of climb
The Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route is the best ascent route; this route offers the complete Kilimanjaro experience, more acclimatization time, more culture, more spectacular scenery and even a night in Kibo caldera.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL: On your arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO) our representative will pick you from airport and then transfer to hotel in Moshi for dinner and overnight at Panama hotel Neneu hotel www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 2: LEMOSHO - FOREST CAMP (9,000 FT): Your first day by this route is only a few hours of easy hiking from Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp, and gives a good opportunity to stretch your legs in anticipation of the long trek ahead.
DAY 3: FOREST CAMP - SHIRA CAMP 1 (11,000 FT):After an early breakfast, you will start 5 hours walk through the forest and up into the Hagenia zone. The vegetation begins to thin out as you approach the Shira Plateau, one of the three craters of the Kilimanjaro volcanic massif. From Shira Camp there are exquisite views of the Shira Needles and far-off Mount Meru.
DAY 4: SHIRA 1 CAMP - TO SHIRA 2 PLATEAU (12,500 FT): Enjoy the fabulous view of Uhuru Peak as it greets you this morning. Today’s trek takes you up a steep track through a savannah of tall grasses, volcanic rock and bearded heather. You will encounter giant groundsels as you hike through an ethereal landscape of volcanic lava, caves and foaming streams.A trek of approximately six hours will take you to your next campsite; you should arrive between 2 and 3 p.m. Most climbers tend to pace themselves, walking slowly, sipping at their water bottles and resting about every half-hour.

Your camp is set at almost the same altitude as on the previous night. Today’s trek lasts for about six hours and arrival at camp is between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m.
DAY 6: BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP (13,000 FT): Another early start to birdsong, as you begin your hike to Karanga Camp (which is on the same altitude as Barranco Camp, so now you should be well acclimatized to this elevation). You will encounter a bit of a scramble at Barranco Cliff before climbing up and down the slopes of the mountain for most of the way to camp. This section of the trail takes approximately four hours. In the afternoon you have an opportunity to hike in the Karanga Valley, where giant senecios and lobelia grow. Rest as much as you possibly can to prepare yourself for the climb ahead.
DAY 7: KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP (15,200 FT): The lovely scenic climb to Barafu is mostly on alpine desert terrain; a mainly mineral environment with few lichens and mosses. Mawenzi Peak towers majestically to the right and Kibo Peak seems just a stone’s throw away. Arrival at Barafu Camp should be shortly before 3 p.m. Climbers who wish to attempt the summit should retire early tonight, as the next day is the longest of the whole climb.

Arriving into camp at around 5 p.m. you will look back and realize that, today, you have trekked a total of thirteen hours!
DAY 9: MWEKA CAMP TO THE GATE: Take time to appreciate once more the tropical rainforest on your descent to Mweka Gate. This final descent can take anything from two to five hours, depending on trail conditions (rain can occur at any time of year at this elevation and a muddy trail calls for a very slow pace). After collecting your Certificate of Achievement, you will be met by your vehicle for the drive back to Moshi for overnight in a hotel www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 10. TRANSFER OR START SAFARI: Transfer or start safari
The Shira route is a less popular alternative to the Machame route, but it offers stunning scenery and a more gradual ascent. The route starts in the Shira caldera, a massive volcanic crater that is home to a variety of plants and animals. From the caldera, the route climbs through the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude desert with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. The final ascent to the summit is via the Barafu Camp route, which is shared by the Machame and Shira routes. The Shira Plateau is a great place to acclimatize to the altitude before attempting the summit. There are several hiking trails on the plateau, including a path to the Shira Needles, a series of volcanic peaks. After a few days on the Shira Plateau, the route descends to the Barranco Camp, where it joins the Machame Route. From there, the route continues to the Barafu Camp, the final camp before the summit. The summit day is a long and challenging hike, but the views from the top are truly breathtaking. Once you reach the summit, you can descend to the Mweka Camp for the night. The next day, you will hike down to the Machame Gate and be transferred back to Moshi.
DAY 1: MOSHI TO MACHAME CAMP: On the first day of your trek, you will be transferred from Moshi to the Machame Gate. From there, you will hike to Machame Camp, which is located in the rainforest. The hike to Machame Camp is relatively easy, and it takes about two to three hours. Along the way, you will see some of the Kilimanjaro's most beautiful scenery, including waterfalls, giant ferns, and exotic birds.
DAY 2: MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA CAMP: On the second day, you will hike from Machame Camp to Shira Camp. The hike is a bit more challenging than the first day, but it is still very doable. The trail winds through the rainforest and then onto the Shira Plateau. The Shira Plateau is a high-altitude plain with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. It is a great place to acclimatize to the altitude before attempting the summit.
DAY 3: SHIRA CAMP TO BARRANCO CAMP: On the third day, you will hike from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp. The hike is mostly downhill, but there are a few sections that are quite steep. Barranco Camp is located in a beautiful valley below the Kibo Crater. It is a great place to spend the night before your summit attempt.
DAY 4: BARRANCO CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP: On the fourth day, you will hike from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp. The hike is quite challenging, and it takes about six hours. Barafu Camp is the final camp before the summit. It is located on a ridge above the Kibo Crater.
DAY 5: BARAFU CAMP TO SUMMIT AND MWEKA CAMP: On the fifth day, you will attempt to summit Kilimanjaro. The hike to the summit is very challenging, and it takes about six to eight hours. The views from the summit are truly breathtaking. Once you reach the summit, you can descend to the Mweka Camp for the night.
DAY 6: MWEKA CAMP TO MOSHI: On the sixth day, you will hike down from Mweka Camp to the Machame Gate. From there, you will be transferred back to Moshi. The Shira Route is a great option for hikers who are looking for a more gradual ascent of Kilimanjaro. It is also a good option for hikers who want to spend more time acclimatizing to the altitude.
The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. This route has low traffic but is gaining popularity amongst climbers. It is the preferred route for those wanting a more remote hike, those looking for an easier route, or those who are climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation). Although the minimum number of days required for this route is six days, seven days are recommended. Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, Rongai passes through true wilderness areas for days before joining the Marangu route at Kibo camp. This route also descends down the Marangu route.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL: On your arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO) our representative will pick you from airport and then transfer to hotel in Moshi for. Dinner and overnight at Panama hotel Neneu hotel www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 2: RONGAI GATE - FIRST CAVE CAMP (8,695 FT): You will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi at 8:30 Am and then transfer to Rongai gate. Climbs of Kilimanjaro by the Rongai Route begin at the picturesque village of Nale Moru (1,950m), on a small path through potato and corn fields. After entering the pine forest, it takes approximately three to four hours to reach first camp, situated on the edge of the moorland zone.
DAY 3: FIRST CAVE CAMP - SECOND CAVE CAMP (11,319 FT): A steady ascent across open grasslands (which attract elephant and other wildlife) brings us to second cave camp, where the views out over Amboseli and Tsavo parks in Kenya are superlative. This section of the trail takes approximately four hours.
DAY 4: SECOND CAVE CAMP - THIRD CAVE CAMP (12,713 FT): Today you will trek up a gentle gradient to third cave, with superb views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim. Allow yourself three to four hours for this section of the trail. Your easy, steady pace on the Rongai Route minimizes levels of difficulty and significantly assists acclimatization.
DAY 5: THIRD CAVE CAMP - KIBO HUT ON MARANGU TRAIL (15,463 FT): The ascent to Kibo Hut takes about four to five hours, with the trail crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The remainder of this day is devoted to rest and recreation, in preparation for your attempt on the summit which starts around midnight.
DAY 6: KIBO HUT - SUMMIT - HOROMBO HUT (12,201 FT): It is at this stage that the climb becomes much more difficult and hikers should carry as little as possible for this stage. Making your way up a path that is flanked by the Ratzel and Rebman glaciers, you will climb for about six hours before reaching the edge of the crater between Stella and Hans Meyer points. The track around the edge of the crater is icy and rocky, so concentrate on your feet and follow your guide very closely for this section of the climb. Another hour of climbing will bring you to the summit – Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African continent. Enjoy your sense of achievement as you watch the rising sun reflect of Kilimanjaro’s ice-caps and glaciers. Trek down to Kibo Hut (a relatively quick descent) for a well-deserved breakfast before continuing down to your final night on the mountain at Horombo Hut.
DAY 7: HOROMBU HUT - MARANGU GATE: Take time to appreciate the different flora and thick forest on this side of the mountain, as you walk down from Horombo to Marangu Gate. Now is the time to collect your certificate, say goodbye to your new mountain friends and rejoin your vehicle for the short drive back to Moshi for overnight in a hotel (B&B). Dinner and overnight at Neneu hotel http://www.neneuhotel.com
DAY 8: TRANSFER OR START SAFARI: Transfer or start safari End of Climb.
The Umbwe Route is a challenging for experienced trekkers and less-traveled route up Kilimanjaro, known for its steep ascents and stunning scenery.
